HISTORY

The Sports Academy is an entity that contributes to the university's achievements through the provision of professional services, consultancy and sports research to support national sports policy and development. The Sports Academy's mission is to be the leader of sports excellence in IPT and Malaysia in general while increasing the visibility of UPM.

Starting on 3 February 2022, the Sports Academy and the Sports Center have been merged into one entity under the auspices of the UPM Vice Chancellor's Office with the name Sports Academy. There has been some reorganization and improvement that has been made in the organization to strengthen the management of the Sports Academy. This is one of the university's strategies in implementing the evaluation of governance transformation. Nevertheless, this merger still does not deviate from the original objectives and goals of the establishment of the Sports Academy and Sports Center before.

Various activities, programs and directions carried out before are still maintained, and there are also reforms that will also be introduced. For example, the Sports Academy will empower the service, management and administration functions of the UPM Sports entity in an effort to produce the best UPM athletes. In addition, the Sports Academy also helps the university to become a reference and internationally reputable university in the field of sports excellence by maximizing the use of resources and expertise related to the field of sports science at UPM and further achieving HICOE service core standards.

In addition to that, the Sports Academy also plays a role in forming and managing the Sports Excellence Center which will be the main pillar of the Sports Academy today. These duties and responsibilities clearly prove that the Sports Academy has been trusted by UPM to continue the tradition of sports excellence which is indeed one of the pillars of UPM's own glory. Although the activities and focus of the Sports Academy are growing, knowledge generation activities are still actively carried out through the field of research which also contributes towards raising the standard as a research university.

The Sports Academy is always ready to work with any party interested in applying for a research grant through the Sports Academy or in any aspect to fulfill the aims and objectives.
